Reggie Showers was destined to ride a motorcycle regardless of the obstacles thrown at him.  At an early age in Philadelphia, Showers was involved in an incident that changed his life...forever.

Just like any other day in 1978, Reggie and his friends were out riding on the local dirt bike track, which happened to be near a railroad bed the teens would play on regularly.  Unfortunately this is where Reggie Showers' life would suddenly become much more challenging.  An electrical shock was sent shooting through his body from a hot wire near one of the train cars.  Both of his legs would have to be amputated.  This however, seemed only to fuel his determination that much more as he wasn't willing to let this get in the way of his dreams.

Motorcycling has been dominated Reggie's interests from the time he was old enough to sit on a bike and imagine himself cruising through the streets of Philly.  Any notion that this cruise would be a leisurely one went out the window after Showers was introduced to drag racing.

Although a few minor adjustments had to be made, Showers learned to use his prosthetics to his advantage.  Drag racing became a major part of his life and it didn't take much time for Reggie to not only start competing – but also winning – at the highest level.  He would approach speeds of nearly 200 miles per hour on his bike and eventually go on to win the U.S. Nationals in 2003 on a pro stock motorcycle.

The NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) came to know Reggie as one of the most incredible stories of strength and determination over his very successful career.  He is an inspiration to all athletes, children and people in general who are impacted by hardships in their everyday lives.  Having since retired from the sport, Showers continues to motivate people of all ages through speaking on the many challenges that may exist in life, though will only affect you negatively if you let it.

Many of Showers closest followers and NHRA fans in general will always remember the interview done during the Summer Nationals in June of 2008 where he proposed to his girlfriend.  He remains close to his ties with Philadelphia and is a constant reminder to all how far a little faith and willpower can take you in life.
